We left Vancouver at 0600 hr on Mon May 14/07. We boated to Pender Harbour and are spending several days here. The weather has been hot and wonderful. The boat traffic is very light. Mostly American's heading North to Alaska.
We are fishing and finishing up some little boat jobs. We have been to Pender Harbour many times but have never really explored the many cracks and crannies. It is quite a wonderful boating area. Six different bays.
Oysters, clams and prawns oh my! We have had a meal of Sole and gathered enough oysters and clams to get us to our destination the Broughton's.
We are currently staying at Taku Resort for the long weekend and truly enjoying our back and front yard. we have a hot tub!!!!!!!!!!!!! And are using it several times a day. We spent last night at the Legion watching a very good band and many drunks from a ball tournament that is on this weekend on Quadra Island. The RCMP are being kept busy between Quadra and Cortes Islands! We will be heading out tomorrow for Octopus Island Marine Park for a few days and will be out of cell and email range for about 4 days. We hope to catch Lots of Crabs. We have always been lucky at this location. Salmon fishing is also on the agenda tomorrow and the Springs are running.
We are surrounded by bald eagles. Bald eagles are found over most of North America, from Alaska and Canada to northern Mexico. About half of the world's 70,000 bald eagles live in Alaska. Combined with British Columbia's population of about 20,000, the northwest coast of North America is by far their greatest stronghold for bald eagles. They flourish here in part because of the salmon. Dead or dying fish are an important food source for all bald eagles. We have watched them dive for food and pick up shellfish. It surprises me to see the sea gulls try to chase them off.
Until later! We will continue this one blog with pictures all the way up to the Broughton's
